I have read the diary of Anne Frank. Anne has written a very interesting novel. She is set in the time of the holocaust, when she is hiding. She tells us about the wars progress and her 13-15 year old life. Even if she is only a teenager her thoughts and philophosies are many years above her age. Most people say that she had a great relationship for her father, and a bad relationship with her mother. Actually she also felt unconnected to her father and lonely, not finding anyone she could trust. If this book was written 10 years ago Anne might have not been able to write at the time and the war hasn't started by then anyway so her diary would not be as famous as it is today
After reading a biography of Susan B Anthony by Alma Lutz, I gathered an exquisite understanding and knowledge on Susan's life fighting for freedom. I learned about her ambition to fight for woman's suffrage, and the obstacles she had to face on her trek.Susan was born in Massachusetts in 1820. She was a civil rights activist during the Civil War. The picture I found most captivating was her portrait on a coin few decades later, that showed how Anthony's legacy made a huge impact and still stands in history. If this book was written a decade earlier, Susan probably wouldn't be into fighting for freedom yet, due to the fact that she was still very young and the civil war was too far from her era.
I started reading a short book on Marie Antoinette for fun one day and pretty soon I was horrified. The book most certainly does not portray her as a nice queen. She let her people suffer, totally ignorant to what was going on. The statement "Let them eat cake" proves that. Still, being beheaded by a guillotine is a horrible end for anyone.

ReplyDeleteI've been reading the first book in a series The Lady Grace mysteries. It comes from the daybook of Lady Grace, maid of honor to Queen Elizabeth the first. She writes about a murder in the court that her fiancé is blamed for. She tries with the help of some friends to solve the case, getting into a lot of trouble for breaking a lot of rules. It's a very interesting book.
