What is the setting of your story and how does it impact your story?
Whose point of view is the story told from? How would the story be different if a different character told the story?
What character in the story reminds you of yourself so far and why?

The character that reminds me of myself is Thresh because when he heard that Rue died he killed the girl that killed her. When someone threatens my sister I get really mad and protect her. Thresh didn't know Rue but in the hunger games, the other person from your district is like family to the end.
ReplyDeleteThe setting of the hunger games is in an arena. The arena affects the story because it encloses the tributes and forces them to fight with the weapons that are within the center of it.
ReplyDeleteThe book I'm now reading is Divergent by Veronica Roth. The setting of my story is future Chicago, and it's divided into 6 parts, the factions Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite, Amity, and Candor. The other section is the factionless, which is a part of the city where people with no faction live. The point of view is told from the main character Beatrice (Tris) Prior. If it was told from a different character, nobody would know that Beatrice is Divergent and why she chose Dauntless. I believe that Caleb reminds me of myself because he does what right for others and is very bright and intelligent.
ReplyDeleteI have recently read a book called Feed. It is set in the future where people can get computer implants and go to the moon without a suit. The "feed" speaks to the person it is implanted in and can understand the persons thought and feelings. It is kind of like a mini smart phone in your head. In the story our main character, Titus is on the moon with his friends. At a anti gravity bar they meet a girl named Violet. Titus and his friends befriend Violet but later, a feed protested hacks into everyones feed which hospitalizes the group. Everyone makes a full recovery but Violet. Violet's body and feed progressively starts failing her until she is put into a permanent coma.
ReplyDeleteThe setting is mainly an areana this effects the story by people fighth in a small space to survive and win the hunger games. The point of view is being told by catniss.I belive if the capitol people told the story not catniss it would be more influenced from the truth, and even filled with lies and writtened like someone is scared to write the story. Becouse they know there wrong but dont whant to get caought but keep living the way they want.

I just finished a book called The Alchemist by Michael Scott. It follows the life of two twins who were prophesied about thousands of years before - one of the twins had the power to save the world, and the other to destroy it. They travelled around the country with the immortal alchemist Nicholas Flamel, trying to evade the evil necromancer Dr. John Dee and at the same time training the twins to fight channeling energy from their auras (a distinctive atmosphere around a person).
ReplyDeleteThe setting of the story, as aforementioned, was constantly changing as they travelled around, avoiding capture from their enemies. This impacts the story because the ever-changing setting is the reason for the story to continue. If they stayed put, they would be captured, and the story would be over.
This story is told from third person omniscient, meaning the author told us about the events transpiring with both the protagonists and the antagonists, letting us know of all the plans of the latter to attack the former. If this were to be told in a different point of view, our knowledge of both the opposing sides would become limited. With the third person omniscient, I can predict the events later in the book as I have the plans of both sides. If the author focused only on the protagonists or the antagonists, it would be new information to the reader as well when one side found out what the other side was up to.
The character that reminded me most of myself in the story was Sophie Newman, one of the twins either to save or destroy the world. Though Sophie often teased her brother, she would do anything to protect him, and I like to think that I would do the same for my brothers.
My book is "Variant" by Robison Wells, and it is too good :))))))). It takes place in northern Pennsylvania, at a mysterious private boarding school deep in a forest. The main character, Benson, is a foster child sent to Maxfield Prep School, a school run by its own students... With Benson narrating the whole story, we find that the school has some weird rules, and that nobody can ever escape. Everybody seems to be fine with their surroundings, but Benson knows something is wrong and will do whatever it takes to get out. This action-packed thriller brings readers androids, clones, and a whole bunch of lies. The story ends with Benson finally escaping, but to a mysterious town, which is continued in the sequel. Benson is very similar to me, he's independent and always will find ideas on a way to solve a problem. In this book, nothing is as it seems.
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome, Andy! What is the title of the sequel?
