Fiction: Modern

Consider some of the following questions and then blog away!

What is the setting of your story and how does it impact your story?
Whose point of view is the story told from? How would the story be different if a different character told the story?
What character in the story reminds you of yourself so far and why?

  1. My book is "Peak" by: Roland Smith.

    1. The setting of my story is Southeast Asia. It impacts my story because that's where Mt. Everest is located and the main character sets out with his father to climb it.

    2. The point of view is told by the main character, so it's first person point of view. If another character told the story, then it wouldn't necessarily be about a teen talking about his experiences hiking up the massive slope, so there wouldn't be much detail about that.

    3. I believe that Peak reminds me of myself so far because he keeps moving on in life despite obstacles such as getting in trouble for climbing a building and not getting able to go back to school since he is in a detention center. This reminds me of myself moving on through school and life despite many complications that can stymie my path.

  2. I have read the Kite Runner. It is about a man named Amir who tells hs the story of his life. In his childhood he lived in Afghanistan, before the war. He lives with his father (his mother died). He tries to get his father to appreciate and know him, yet hjs father is ashamed. In the servants house live a Hazarat servant and his son. In Kabul, the Hazarsts are discriminated against because they are Shia. Amir though defeats all is customary by being Hasan, the boy's friend. Throughout time though he doubts himself and his frjendship. Hasan has always been there for him but Amir feels he cant do the same. Amir wants courage and athlrticism to be the person the world shaped him tk be (wont say more, will ruin the book)

I am now reading a series called The Good Girlz Series by Reshonda Tate Billingsley. She is an amazing author and has written many books; most containing a Christian theme to them. I am reading the the fourth book of the series the has 8 books. these books take place in I think Philadelphia. the good girlz is a young ladies ministry for girls who have gotten into some type of trouble having to do with the government or are in need of help of some sort. there are four girls that thought the group was usless in the beginning, but ended up being best friends. these four friends have gone through a bunch of ups and downs like: shoplifting stuff to sell it, having your parents fighting 24/7, having to raise a child at 16, boy drama, anger issues, lies, drugs and drinking and many more. All four friends tell the story in different chapters from their points of view. the books are based on the 10 commandments and have taught me a lot. my aunt actually gave me the seventh book and I thought it was like the second or third book of the series, but I was wrong. I figured id just read the whole series. When I finish this series, I plan to start on the new series that reshonda is staring on called rumor central, but that is a whole other blog to save for another day. this is a great series and I hope that you try it out and think so too!!
